I think this might be my favourite song on the album. This song is where I really diverge into new territories, and I'm extremely happy with it.
I had been listening to a bunch of rap and hip-hop, and this song was quite evidently heavily inspired by that. I think the bass line came first... In any case, I realised that I wanted to keep that feel through out the entire song, with the bass line doing all the heavy lifting, really driving everything forward by playing the same lick over and over again. I mixed it up a little in the chorus by changing the root note but keeping the same note structure (it's almost like I have a clue what I'm talking about).
The titular black hole represents the problems/anxieties that we all have and try to escape from. Black holes are infamous for being these invisible, all-consuming existential entities. Sounds familiar, right? Our deepest fears and anxieties feel exactly the same. Inescapable abysses. How can my meager problems have any relevance in a world that is falling apart at the seams?
Well guess what. I'm relevant. You're relevant. It doesn't matter whether you're greatest challenge is trying to take a picture of a black hole or just trying to find a reason to get out of bed in the morning. All problems are relative. You matter.
